Advisory Board Member (Youth Representative) India
Harinee Yerra is a passionate Public Health Nutritionist and the youth representative on the Advisory Board of Sorghum United Foundation. Currently pursuing her Master’s in Nutrition and Dietetics with a specialization in Public Health Nutrition at Symbiosis International University, India, Harinee brings a powerful blend of scientific knowledge, lived experience, and youthful leadership to the global movement for sustainable food systems.
Her journey into nutrition was sparked by her own transformation, reversing thyroid and PCOS through diet and lifestyle, which inspired a mission to promote preventive health and indigenous food wisdom. Harinee’s work integrates traditional grains like sorghum and millets with modern nutrition science to address food insecurity, hidden hunger, and metabolic health challenges.
She has conducted impactful research on dietary patterns and metabolic risk factors, published a book chapter with Elsevier on nutrition and immune health, and won first place in a national innovation contest for developing a functional food product for the elderly. She has also developed millet-based recipes for school feeding programs under the POSHAN Sangam initiative and has led public health outreach with organizations such as Harvest Plus and the Nutrition Society of India.
At Sorghum United Foundation, Harinee leads with creativity and heart, helping to shape campaigns that use games, cartoons, and interactive tools to reintroduce nutrient-rich traditional grains to children and families. As a voice for youth, she is committed to building a future where climate-resilient, health-enhancing foods are celebrated and accessible to all.
