Nate Blum serves as the Chief Executive Officer of BlüMilo and as President of the Board and CEO of the Sorghum United Foundation (SUF), an international NGO dedicated to advancing education, market development, and community empowerment through climate-smart grains such as sorghum and millets. He is a passionate advocate for food security, nutrition, sustainability, and economic equity in rural communities, which ancient grains are uniquely positioned to address.
An expert in sorghum production, marketing, and value-added processing, Mr. Blum has represented the sorghum and millets industry in over 40 countries across every habitable continent. He has addressed global stakeholders at the United Nations FAO, championed the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and hosted an Independent Food Systems Summit in August 2021.
From 2019 to 2023, Mr. Blum served as Executive Director of the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board and the Nebraska Sorghum Producers Association. He currently serves on the USDA’s Grains, Feed, and Oilseeds Agricultural Trade Advisory Committee (ATAC), advising the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) on trade policy. He is also a member of the Private Sector Mechanism (PSM), where he advises the UN Committee on Food Security (CFS).
In 2025, Mr. Blum was appointed to the Project Advisory Group (PAG) for the FAO-led Global Partnership on Bioeconomy for Sustainable Food and Agriculture (GP-BSFA), contributing to the governance framework and international consultations for sustainable food systems transformation.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska (Class of 2019) and is an alumnus of the Nebraska LEAD Program (Class XXXVI), where he also served as Vice President of the LEAD Alumni Association.
As the author of the ‘Sorgho Squad’ adventure comic and video game, Mr. Blum is committed to reimagining how youth engage with food systems and ancestral grains. He frequently speaks at universities, sustainability forums, and agri-tech conferences across the globe.
His work has been featured in global media, including the BBC, MSN, Hindustan Times, Kilimo News, The Startup LA Podcast, and Authority Magazine. Outside of work, he enjoys volunteering, mentoring youth, and organizing community events.
